If you suffer from cold sores then you know they can be extremely painful. They can be embarrassing and they tend to pop up at the most inconvenient time!

What cold sores are
Cold sores are small blisters or sores. These little blisters tend to pop up on the lips, but they can also pop up in clusters around the mouth or even in the nose. They are a member of the herpes family, most often they are caused by the herpes simplex 1 virus. Once you have been exposed to this virus it can lay dormant, or it can pop up again and again.
It is also very contagious. It can be spread by direct contact like kissing or sharing utensils, but also by sharing something like a towel. When it comes to babies it can be deadly and is sometimes referred to as the kiss of death. This is why its very important to never kiss a baby while having a cold sore outbreak. Even when you have no cold sores it is best practice not to kiss on the face.

How to treat cold sore
There is nothing that can fully prevent cold sores, but there is something that can help. L-lysine in supplement form as well as topical is the best defense. This will help both prevent an outbreak, it will also help a current active outbreak to heal quicker!
L-lysine
L-lysine is an essential amino acid. It is essential for human health, but the body does not produce it. This essential amino acid is found in foods like:
- Red meat, pork, and poultry
- Some seafood such as cod, and sardines
- Eggs
- Legumes
- Spurulina
- Soybean
- Dairy
Amino acids are the building block of proteins. Lysine is helpful for many functions in the body including:
- Tissue repair
- Calcium absorption
- Growth
- Collagen formation
- Antibody, hormone, and enzyme production
As you can see this little molecule is very important to overall human health. Research shows it’s most beneficial taken before, or right at the start of an outbreak. If you are currently having an outbreak then taking lysine for an extended period of time even after there gone helps to prevent another outbreak. Once your immune system has been boosted with one or two bottles of lysine it can be used on an as need bases. If you feel a cold sore coming on then immediately begin supplementing. If you are under extreme stress and at higher risk then supplement as well. With L-lysine in your cold sore arsenal you will be better equipped to prevent, and decrease an outbreak.
